FAQ
These answers restate the official Asciilands FAQ and the credits page, then separate this game from Land of ASCII, Asciicker, and Smalland. Each question is its own heading. Phone and Steam stay on this page as anchors, because the FAQ still lists both as later.
The source pages are the official site and credits. Account wording is also on Account.
Is Asciilands free?
Yes. The official FAQ says Asciilands is completely free to play, with optional donations if you want to help keep the servers up. The game opens at the official Play page.
Can I play on a phone?
No. The official FAQ says only desktop and laptop browsers are supported right now. Mobile, and a downloadable client or Steam game, would be next in line. There is no phone build to install.
Is there a Steam version?
Not yet. The same official sentence says a downloadable client or Steam game would be next in line. Play stays in the browser at the official Play page. This heading is the Steam anchor, so there is no separate Steam page.
Do I need Discord?
No, not to start. Guest progress saves. The official FAQ says logging in with Discord is what continues progress across devices and unlocks Friends, Parties, and Towns. The login notes are on Account, and towns are on Towns.
Will progress be wiped?
The official FAQ says progress does save, both for guest accounts and for Discord logins, and that the world itself is persistent. It also says wipes are possible later. Unless a wipe is fully necessary, that would probably be for builds and the world, and not necessarily for items. This page does not guess past that sentence.
Where do donations go?
Donations are voluntary. The official FAQ says they go first to server hosting, and then to replacing AI-made assets with human-made assets. The developer also says code assistance from AI was extensive, and that player-facing text should be human-written. If you spot placeholder text aimed at players, the credits page asks you to say so in the Discord bug-reports channel. Support is the developer Ko-fi. The long version is on credits, not on a separate exposé here.
Is this Land of ASCII, Asciicker, or Smalland?
No. Land of ASCII is a different small HTML game. Asciicker is the earlier renderer Asciilands credits, and this game is a separate project. Smalland: Survive the Wilds is another commercial survival game. The four-row check is Asciilands vs Land of ASCII.
