Asciilands guide

Towns

Updated Tested
Changed in The Frontier Update

Towns are the Discord-linked settlement tools in Asciilands. The Town panel can claim your current chunk, expand territory, and show founder, officer, resident, and visitor roles. Upkeep is described in client Help, not invented here. Friends, parties, and towns wait until you log in with Discord.

The official FAQ says Friends, Parties, and Towns come after a Discord login. Guests are covered on Account. The panel itself includes a Sign in with Discord button from the town welcome.

Claim and expand

The territory controls still read Claim This Chunk and Expand Territory. G is Borders on the action bar. T opens Town. Help says town land is made of plots, each 50 by 50 metres, and that G shows the edges.

Help also says founding a town means connecting Discord, discovering iron ingots, and placing a Town Hall from Build, under Settlement. The hall is a Building piece. This page does not add an iron recipe.

Who can build

The Town panel states the role back to you. Building access follows the town policy for that role. Help adds that you can build on your own plot even when your role cannot build in general, and that only you and the founder build there.

RoleWhat the checked text says
Founder (owner)“You lead this town.” The founder appoints officers and can offer leadership.
OfficerInvites, and builds when the town policy allows that role.
ResidentBuilds when the policy allows, or on their own plot, according to Help.
VisitorNot a member. The panel points you to an invitation from the founder or an officer.

The denial line in the client is: “Your role cannot build here. Ask the founder or an officer for permission.”

A details block in the panel says: “Your buildings remain yours. Wooden chests and stations are shared. Metal chests are owner-only.” Help repeats that your buildings stay yours if you leave. That is ownership inside a town, not a promise that the world never wipes. The wipe wording is on the FAQ.

Upkeep

The Frontier Update listed “Town upkeep” without a price. Client Help, under Starting a town, now states a rule: upkeep takes 1 gold per plot each day from the treasury. If the treasury runs dry, the town has seven days to pay or it lapses and its land is released.

The Town panel can also show a daily tax the founder saved, paid by residents and officers on days they spend there, or the line “No daily tax.” The amount on screen is that town’s figure. This guide does not publish one tax for every town.

Place the hall from Building. Sign-in is on Account. The bulletin that named upkeep is The Frontier Update.
