Getting Started
This page follows the seven-step Frontier Field Guide in the Asciilands client. You join a world, gather, refine one material, drop an item, pick it up, place a campfire or workbench, and travel. Character creation is appearance only. There is no class and no level.
The dock in the client is labeled Frontier Field Guide, and it counts 0 / 7. When the list is finished, the title becomes “Frontier ready” and the detail says: “You know the essential loop. Choose what the settlement needs next.” Help, on H, is a longer set of topics. This page does not fold those topics into an eleven-step list.
Establish a character
The title screen has Customize. The form is appearance: name, height, build, hairstyle, expression, face, features, skin, and tunic color. Nothing on that form is a class, a job, or a level.
The seven steps
- Enter the frontier. Join the persistent world and establish your character.
- Gather a resource. Face a tree or rock and click to swing. Press F to gather fiber plants. See Gathering.
- Make a useful material. Open Crafting and turn a raw resource into a refined material. See Crafting.
- Leave an item on the ground. Open your inventory, select a stack, and drop one item. The pack filters are Materials, Gear, and Buildables. Dropped items show up in the world.
- Recover a ground item. Stand near a visible item and pick it up again.
- Place your first structure. Use gathered materials to place a campfire or workbench. See Building.
- Reach another region. Use an exit or the world map to travel to a connected zone. See Map.
Keys for those panels are on Controls. The client also says workbench steps reserve materials when a step is started. That line is repeated on the crafting page, still without a recipe.
Where to go next
The finished guide points at a settlement. Towns, farming, and the map are separate pages. Start with the loop above before those systems.
